FUE vs DHI: What Is Actually Different?

5 min read

Both techniques relocate your own follicles. The real differences are in how grafts are placed — and what that means for you.

FUE and DHI are often presented as competing choices, but they are closely related. Both extract individual follicular units from a donor area and place them where hair is thinning.

The main distinction is in placement. DHI uses an implanter tool that controls the angle, depth and direction of each graft in one step. FUE typically separates the creation of recipient sites from placement.

Neither is universally better. The right choice depends on your pattern of loss, donor characteristics and the density you are aiming for. A good consultation should explain why a particular technique is recommended for you.

When comparing options, focus less on the label and more on the plan: how many grafts, how the hairline is designed, and what result is realistic.
